The Wake County Chapter of the United Nations Association
invites you to our January 2005 Program:

Tuesday the 11th — at 6:00pm

Topic:

Upcoming Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

Speaker:

Denise Scotto, Vice-Chair of the United Nations (UN) Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Committee on the Status of Women

The upcoming session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women will be a 10-year review of the Beijing Platform for Action — the outcome document of the 4th World Conference on Women held in Beijing 10 years ago. Ms. Scotto, an international lawyer who has specialized in women's issues, will discuss specific forms of violence against women as well as geographic/regional issues. She will be prepared to discuss such issues as trafficking in persons, the international criminal court, war crimes, children of war, HIV/AIDS, and advocacy at the United Nations; she has organized and presented at conferences and programs dealing with these subjects in countries around the world.

In Ms. Scotto's most recent assignment with the UN, she was in the Division for the Advancement of Women where she was responsible for organizing panels and events and acting as a liaison with the UN Secretariat departments, UN specialized agencies, governments, and the NGO community.
