SPEAKER: David Potorti
DAVID POTORTI is one of the founding members of September 11th Families for
Peaceful Tomorrows and author of the book "September 11th Families for Peaceful
Tomorrows: Turning Our Grief into Action for Peace." September 11th
Families for Peaceful Tomorrows represents more than 100 family members of September
11th victims and 3,000 supporters. David lost his oldest brother, Jim, at the
World Trade Center, where he was a vice president/systems analyst for Marsh
McLennan. Members of the "Peaceful Tomorrows" group have traveled to
Afghanistan, Iraq, Japan, Korea, India, Turkey, Italy and Britain, and are currently
organizing the first international gathering of families affected by terrorism
and war.
David, who lives in Cary and has a journalist background, spoke on behalf of the group in Tokyo and Seoul, South Korea over the Thanksgiving holiday. Last month, he was the recipient of the 2003 North Carolina International Human Rights Award. TOPIC: "A Victim's Viewpoint: What Are the Real Sources of Security in a World Threatened by Terrorism?"
