is the nation's largest grassroots foreign policy organization offering Americans the opportunity to learn about global issues confronted by the U.N., from health, human rights, and hunger, to the spread of democracy, equitable development, and international justice.

Its school programs on every level provide students with the opportunity to learn about the culture, customs, and geography of countries around the world.

Teachers can:

  • Help students to develop an understanding of and appreciation for other people and other cultures.
  • Prepare students for an increasingly complex world.
  • Help students prepare to deal with differences of opinion and conflict in constructive, non-violent ways.
Resources to help teachers educate about the United Nations:
  • Curriculums and lesson plans for primary, middle and secondary schools.
    An introduction for students at all levels to the UN and its work. These plans, prepared by teachers for teachers, introduce students to the UN and many of the global issues and concerns it addresses
  • UN CyberSchoolBus
    The UN's global teaching and learning project provides a variety of features and resources designed to introduce students to the UN and it's work.
  • Model UN
    Simulations of the UN meetings in which students play the role of the delegates from different countries help participants understand and respect cultural differences and provide them with the skills necessary to work with others to peacefully resolve conflicts.
  • Essay Contest
    A nationwide contest that encourages students to think about America's role in the world and the United Nations by preparing and essay on a selected topic.
