Communications and External Relations
Background:Kevin Cassidy (USA) is currently the Communications and External Relations Officer for the International Labour Organization (ILO) based in the Office for the United Nations, New York, and is also responsible for outreach in the ILO Washington, DC office. For the past 7 years, Mr. Cassidy was the Communications Manager for a global campaign on Promoting Fundamental Rights at Work. During that time he has worked in 52 countries world wide developing interactive radio and television programs as well as developed stories for print media in support of the technical cooperation projects of the ILO. He has trained several thousand journalists, producers and editors in all regions of the world on ILO issues and has worked closely with BBC, CNN, Deutsche Welle and numerous national and local media organizations on covering the world of work. Prior to joining the ILO, Mr. Cassidy worked for the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) in London as the Operations, Communications and Partnership Manager. His work with the AKF focused on rural development work in Central and South Asia. Mr. Cassidy has worked in several UN offices over the past 23 years including Department of Peacekeeping Operations (information systems development for landmine removal), Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance, the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (50th Anniversary of the UN), the Department of Public Information (as Editorial Assistant and Marketing Manager for Africa Recovery, Development Business and Development Forum) and the Non-Governmental Liaison Service (NGLS), New York.
