Annual United Nations DinnerTopic:Health Education Throughout the World Speaker:Dr. James Lea, professor, Department of Family Medicine in the School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Since joining the UNC-Chapel Hill faculty in 1973, Dr. Lea has led the design and implementation of human capacity programs for health care providers, managers and trainers in more than 40 countries, traveling extensively in sub-Saharan and Mediterranean Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. Dr. Lea is founding director (emeritus) of INTRAH, the university's worldwide health services development program, which he led for more than 22 years. He serves as adviser and examiner to educational institutions and private organizations in several countries. He has worked collaboratively with the West Triangle Chapter of the UN Association on the development of programs to improve access to health care by under-served populations in North Carolina. Dr. Lea has assisted U.S. companies and consortia of medical schools to produce and present continuing medical education programs using distance learning technologies. He lectures to professional and trade organizations on topics in management and globalization and writes a bi-monthly syndicated newspaper column.
