Speakers:Dan Figgins, Professor at NCSU, & Jamie Pendergrass, a former student of Dr. Figgins Jamie Pendergrass was born and raised in Henderson, North Carolina, graduating from Northern Vance High School in 2000 and from NC State University in 2004 with a B.S. in Political Science. He studied in three of Dr. Figgins' courses, U.S. Foreign Policy, Introduction to International Law, and most recently The United Nations and Global Order. He wrote an expert paper on the tenets of current U.S. foreign policy from the 1997 Project for a New American Century through the June 1, 2002, George W. Bush graduation address at West Point to the September 2002 National Security Strategy. Professor Dan Figgins has been a member of the United Nations Association since being a high-school Model UN participant. He attended Grinnell College and did graduate work at Syracuse University. An internship with the International Organizations Bureau in the US Department of State led to his later joining the US Foreign Service; his first assignment was in the U.S. Mission to the European Office of the United Nations in Geneva. Fourteen years of his 25-year Foreign Service career were spent at U.S. Missions to United Nations Organizations — besides Geneva, he lived in New York City and was a delegate to the General Assembly, he negotiated frequently in Vienna, Austria with the UN Industrial Development Organization, and he also lived in Montreal, Canada, seat of the International Civil Aviation Organization, and in Nairobi, Kenya, headquarters of the UN Environment Program. He also had regular Foreign Service tours in Argentina, Peru, Nicaragua, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Date and TimeTuesday, June 21th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm Place:
