Topic:The U.S. & Global Poverty
Dr. Hobbs will explore the nature of global poverty, recent trends, and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals approved by countries of the world at the United Nations Millennium Summit meeting in September 2000. The UN Millennium Project has produced a detailed blueprint for the world to follow in relating to global poverty. These plans will be identified and the extent to which U.S. policies and actions are designed to deal with world poverty will be addressed. Dr. Hobbs is also an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at NCSU. She has previously served on the faculties of Florida International University in Miami and Illinois State University. In 2000, she published Pondering Postinternationalism: A Paradigm for the 21st Century. She has also authored articles, contributed book chapters, and made numerous presentations. She has been a leader in various professional associations; most recently she was Chair of the Women's Caucus of the International Studies Association. She is currently working on a textbook entitled: Introduction to International Studies: An Orientation to the World.
