Teaching for Peace and Understanding—The International Baccalaureate Programmes at Work Around the World

Speaker:

Dr. Flo Durway, retired director of the International Baccalaureate Programmes of Wake County Public School System

Background:

Dr. Durway holds an Ed.D. degree in Curriculum and Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an M.A.T degree in English from Duke University, and a B.A. in English from Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. She served on the faculty of the College of Education of Louisiana State University for seven years and taught English for 29 years in public schools in the United States and Belgium.

Dr. Durway will give a brief history of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and she will discuss its mission and education programs.

Place:

The Oak Room under the Belk Dining Room at Meredith College. Enter the Meredith campus from the Faircloth Road entrance off Wade Avenue, turn right at the stop sign, and follow the road up the hill until there are parking places on both sides of the street — the dining hall will be on your left. If no parking space is open, back track and go left into the staff parking lot.
